Summary of ADVANCES IN INTERNET IP
TYPE OF DOCUMENT : A news article on ADVANCES IN INTERNET IP.
TARGET AUDIENCE : Author assumes that the reader has some previous knowledge of Internet Protocols. This article is basically for people involved with developing IP and networking .
INTRODUCTION :
TCP/IP is one of the the
most inportant of the internet protocols. As internet and intranet appicication
grow so dose the internet protol. This Article mainly discusses the latest Advances
in IP.
SUMMARY:
The current version of the IP is version 4 (IPv4) .This version been standard
from 1981. A newer version was developed in 1992 called the IPng now known as
IPv6. IPv6 is now mainly wide spread in the networking world .It provides many
solution to open topics in internet such as address space exhaustion, user
mobility, security and support for ATM and Quality of service. It is widely used
in labs and pilot netwoks.
The latest IP deals with commercial network , this is specially designed for
Internet Service Providers to control their service network.Another change in
the latest IP is to deal with ATM(is a NBMA Non Broadcast Multiple Access).
Modifications done to IPv4 is called "Classical IP over ATM"(RFC
1577).Other modification approaches are Nect Hop Resolution Protocol "NHRP"
, Multi-Protocol over ATM "MPOA",Integrated Private Network to Network
Interface "I-PNNI", Cell Switching Routers "CSR".
Another approach is developing a IP that enables fast packet switching and
traffic engineering. This is called Multi-Protocol Label Switching "MPLS".
Some spproaches which are in development stages are IP over Optics and
Multi-Protocol Lambda Switching . RSVP or Resource reSerVation Protocol is
designed for a generic IP network.
Conclusion :
This article talks about latest in internet protocols . The Article talks about its features , design aspects and other
concepts involved.
Personal Inference : I find this article very interesting and i would recommend all students interested in Computer networking.
