TYPE OF DOCUMENT : A White paper on Amoeba Distributed Operating System.
TARGET AUDIENCE : Author assumes that the reader has some previous knowledge of Distributed Operating system. This is an ongoing research project , this article would be of intersect to anyone doing a research on distributed operating system.
INTRODUCTION :
Amoeba is a distributed operating
system , it is designed to take a number of systems and integrate them into a
single operating system. Amoeba is still in research stage. It is primarily
based on time sharing principal.
SUMMARY:
This article describes the architecture , design goals , fundamental concepts and other important features of this new distributed operating system.
The Amoeba operating system is based on parallel computing technology. A typical Amoeba operating system will consist of three functional classes machines. First system is a work station running the user interface .
The Second , there exists a pool of processors that are allocated to users. Third are specialized servers such as file servers and directory servers that run all the time . Some of fundamental concepts of Amoeba are Microkernel + Server Architecture ,Threads , Remote Procedural Call , Group Communication , Objects and Capabilities , Memory Management, Input/Output features.
Conclusion :
This article talks about a new ,under research operating system called
Amoeba. The Article talks about its features , design aspects and other
concepts involved.
Personal Inference : I find this article very interesting and i would recommend all students interested in distributed operating systems.
